About Neck Point Scouting Group

The 1st Neck Point Scouting group was formed in 1998 and has been delivering the Scouting Program to youth from ages 6 to 19 in and around the Nanaimo Area.

First Neck Point comprises a full compliment of sections: Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Veturers and Rovers with more than 60 youth currently registered. The respective programs are run in accordance with the guidelines set out by Scouts Canada. Programs include section specify activities, group related activities and participation in community events. Meetings occur weekly during the public school year with at least one weekend activity per month.

The mission of Scouting is described as "the contribution to the education of young people, through a value system based on the Scout Promise and Law, to help build a better world where people are self-fulfilled as individuals and play a constructive role in society." This mission statement forms the basis by which 1st Neck Point Group provides a system of educational programs that are geared toward youth of all ages, religions and abilities through learning by doing, supporting values of doing one's best, contributing to the community, and respecting and caring for others. We welcome all persons to participate because it ultimately contributes to all communities by developing youth to be well rounded and have substantial life skills to become the leaders of tomorrow.

1St Neck Point Group has had a succession plan in place for several years to ensure that the Group remains viable. This is done out of respect for the founders of the Group who worked diligently to get the program up and running and keep youth membership. We provide leaders and youth with all the necessary training so that they can deliver quality programs and keep up with recruitment. We are one of few Groups within our Council to have a full Group Committee that are not full time leaders.

1st Neck Point Group, as with all Scout Groups, are clearly identifiable in the community. We support the community in ways such as community clean up projects, Food Bank support and support of donating businesses through recognition in the media.
